“Then he said to me, ‘This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the LORD of hosts. “What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain; and he will bring forth the top stone with shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!'”‘” (Zech 4:6-7).
Oftentimes, our struggle to overcome the world, the devil, and the flesh feels like an unmovable mountain blocking our path towards spiritual maturity.
The harder we try to please God, the more we end up despising ourselves because of our constant failures.
If we find ourselves in this vicious cycle, it’s because we are trying to please God with our own “might” and “power.” It is, however, impossible to please God by serving him in our flesh (Gal 3:1-3). The way forward is the same today as it was for Zerubbabel. Let’s stop trying to move mountains by our own might and power, and let’s start relying on the Spirit of God who lives inside us to turn those great mountains into plains!
“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances” (Ezek 36:27).
