“‘Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.’ So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him” (Luke 8:39).
Yeshua tells this man to tell everyone about the great things GOD did for him. The man goes home and tells everyone about the great things YESHUA did for him!
Was this man obedient to Yeshua’s command or not?
The difference in the wording between what Yeshua commanded the man to do and what the man actually did provokes an important theological question: Was this man obedient to Yeshua’s command or not? Since the author does not condemn this man for robbing God of the glory due his name, it’s obvious the man’s actions are completely in line with Luke’s theology. Yeshua is God in the flesh who has come to set the captives free!
“Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations… I am the LORD, I have called You in righteousness, I will also hold You by the hand and watch over You, and I will appoint You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations, to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon and those who dwell in darkness from the prison. I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to graven images” (Isa 42:1, 6-8).
