July 13th this year is the date on which 17th Tammuz falls. It is said that the Romans breached the walls of Jerusalem on this date just before the city and temple were destroyed in 70 AD. Between the 17th of the Jewish month of Tammuz and the 9th of Av, which falls on August 3rd, there is a time of mourning for the Jewish people. This period is known as “Bein haMetzarim” or the time Between the straits / dire straits . It’s remarkable how many tragedies have happened to the Jewish people during this time in particular.
